There is no silver bullet.

Many people stuggle with their weight their entire lifetime and no matter what diet they try or what routine they get into, their weight doesn't change much. This happens to tens of millions of people every day and it is frustrating, but, there is a solution. If you are trying to lose a few pounds to a few hundred pounds the secret is understanding that "your body is like a bank account" where if you make more deposits (eat more calories) than withdrawls (burn more calories), you'll gain weight. You have to keep that notion strongly planted in your head no matter which routine you choose, which weight-loss program you follow, or which program (below) you go with. You also need to change your way of thinking becuase the word "diet" seems to have a very negative effect on your life. You are not on a diet, you are simply choosing to eat a little bit less than you did in the past and excercise more than you are doing today. You don't need to use the word "diet" in your day to day life. You are just choosing to change the way you do things.

The key is to stick with it and write down your goals. People that write down their goals, regardless of what the goals are, have a significantly greater chance at success than those who just keep it in their head. Write down your goals. If you want to lose five pounds in the next 14 days, write it down, put it on a post-it on your mirror, or put it somewhere you can see and read to yourself every time you see it.

Excercise doesn't have to be a chore

Many people dread the idea of excercise. They remember back to when they were a kid in school and having to do sit-ups, pull-ups, and run 100 yard dashes. Those things are great to build up muscle and stamina, but getting out side for a 30 minute walk, with or without a pet, is excercise. Walking on a treadmill is excercise. You don't have to burn yourself out with a high incline and 5mph walk/run routine. The key is to start moving every day. Work yourself up to a faster pace, higher incline, or using those bands to build muscle. Do something you like to do that gets you moving and repeat the process every day. After two weeks your brain will have that routine set as a habit so you will actually WANT to go and do that routine. If you want to go to a gym and lift weights, do it. If you want to keep things private and lift dumbbells in your basement, do it. The key is to simply do something that gets your muscles working. It can be walking, jogging, lifting weights, using resistance bands, using a push lawnmower to cut your lawn, sweeping your patio, etc. Anything that gets you moving is where to start and do things at a pace and comfort level that work for you. Don't start out so aggressive that you hurt yourself becuase your brain will equate excercise with pain and will do everything it can to convince you NOT to do it again.
